Dog Behavior
Author: Eric Letendre If you want to learn about dog behavior, all you have to do is watch them interact with each other.
Here is what you can learn from watching dogs:
1. Dogs love to play and interact with one another.
2. There is an obvious social structure within a group
of dogs. Brandy, my pitbull, is the at the top of the pack.
She is not aggressive but she definitely gets what she wants.
3. They communicate through body language.
4. They exhibit their emotions - you can tell when your
dog is scared, happy, angry, etc.
When you train your dog you should make it fun. The more
fun you have training, the chances of you and your dog being successful are much higher.
Become the pack leader. Your dog needs to understand that
you are the leader. This is accomplished by controlling
the activities that are important to your dog.
Control the games, control the food, control the sleeping
areas, and control the social contact between you and your
dog.
Learn to use your body language when you are interacting
with your dog.
Pay attention to your dog when you are training. You can
tell when your dog is stressed. That is a great time to
take the pressure off. Spend a few minutes just playing
with your dog.
If you have a dog park or dog daycare in your area and
have the opportunity to watch your dog play with others,
it really is a lot of fun and you can learn a lot.
